While they typically can be prepared the same way, we’ll focus on Spaghetti. In Nigeria, spaghetti has been used as a full meal, a side dish, and even something you take before an actual meal is ready. As a result of the many ways it is put to use, there are various ways it can be prepared.

Here are just some of them.

  • Plain Spaghetti and Tomato Sauce

Plain Spaghetti and Tomato Sauce

Plain Spaghetti and sauce or stew, is probably the easiest spaghetti recipe there is. It is the commonest in preparation as it basically takes 10 minutes to prepare. As long as you have the stew or sauce you intend to use for it already prepared, all you have to do is prepare the pasta. To prepare it, you simply have to bring water to a boil in a pot and add the pasta. It is advisable to parboil it, before finally cooking it with salt. Serve with stew or any sauce of your choice.

  • Jollof Spaghetti

Jollof Spaghetti

While there are probably different names this spaghetti and tomato sauce combo is called, in Nigeria, we call it Jollof Spaghetti. The name stems from the fact that its preparation follows the same pattern as Jollof Rice. Parboil the Spaghetti in a separate pot and keep it. To make the Jollof Spaghetti, fry onions, tomato paste, and blended pepper in olive or vegetable oil until it fries well. Add seasoning, stock, and the meat or fish you intend to put in it. Finally, add the spaghetti and wait for it to cook. This is also fairly easy to prepare and you can jazz it up as much as you want. For example, you could add ginger or nutmeg to add to the taste. This is perfect for a main dish.

  • Tomato and Garlic Pasta

Don’t let this name fool you. This meal is also very easy to prepare. After parboiling the pasta till it is al dente, get a separate pot and heat up olive or vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add onions and garlic and cook until it is crisp-tender, stirring frequently. Mix in diced tomatoes, diced peppers, diced carrots, seasoning, and any other extra ingredient of your choice. Cook it all up then add the pasta and stir. You’ll have a wonderful dish that can be served with wine for a romantic dinner. Try not to use too much garlic so as not to overpower the taste and you’ll love it.

  • Spaghetti Bolognese

Spaghetti Bolognese

Spaghetti Bolognese is a wonderful meal that tastes simply spectacular. Making it is also super easy. All you have to do is cook up your spaghetti using the same process from number (1), and then make the Bolognese sauce. Place a frying pan on fire and add oil. Add garlic (if you want), fry onions, and let it simmer till it’s translucent. Add minced meat (available in supermarkets) and stir till the beef browns up. Pour blended tomatoes into the beef and add the remaining ingredients to season it. You can choose to serve the Bolognese sauce on the pasta or you can mix it.

Wawu!!! Kogi Introduces Daily Payment For Civil Servants

State government has introduced electronic attendance register to further checkmate the activities of the civil servants.

The state civil servants are already lamenting over the new clocking system, which they said would further impoverish them with the recent introduction of 50% salaries payment.

The new system which workers have to clock in between 7.30 and 8am for resumption, 12pm for break and 4pm for closure, on every working day, is being used to determine how many days and hours an individual worker spent in a month for the purpose of calculating the salary.

DAILY POST further learnt that the machines, which have the imputed workers’ biodata, were installed in all the ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) which are to be controlled from the office of the Accountant General of the state for the purpose of computing salaries on individual basis.

Kogi State government is the first state in the country to introduce clocking time regulations for its workers.

According to some civil servants who spoke on anonymity, the government has subtly commenced downsizing and technically introduced salary reduction.

“Come to think of it, for instance, a PRO deployed to ministry of environment and whose parent ministry is Ministry of Information will have to go to the ministry three times a day and still have to contend with his work at the ministry of environment, with enormous costs, as the two ministry are located far from each other.

“Also, those who are on essential services would have to stop whatever they are doing to rush to the ministry to clock in three times per day.

Is the new system not meant to sack workers and also to reduce salaries, since workers are going to be paid on number of clockings?

“Why are governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello’s policies tailored towards punishing workers?

This clocking system to us have not been adopted by any government in Nigeria, and even Construction Companies only used it for the purpose of computing over time rates”, ‎the angry worker lamented.

OAU SUG excos fight over N3.8m, VP beaten up, Social Director stabbed (photos)

We earlier reported that the leaders of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Student Union Government (SUG) broke into a serious fight over disbursement of money.

According to reports, two people landed in a hospital following a fight between members of the SUG in OAU Ile-Ife, Osun state, on Tuesday, September 5, 2017.

The students had reportedly been fighting over N3.8m which had been given to them by the school’s management, to disburse for useful projects within the institution.

The fight which led to bottles being broken and the SUG vice president, Miss Tosin Jacob allegedly stabbing the social director, Adebayo Emmanuel, in the arm after he reportedly gave her a headbutt, started during a meeting they had called to discuss how the money would be shared.

The vice president allegedly stabbed the social director in retaliation after he gave her a headbutt.

See pictures of the vice president after the fight below:

Confirming the fight between the excos, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the SUG said:

What happened is not something we can keep elaborating on. The breaking of a bottle occurred in a meeting held inside the president’s office is not an issue for public consumption and it has been resolved. Even at home and at the federal level, we have misunderstanding. So, we had one here and it has been settled. This is a human setting and anybody can pick an offence.

Confirming that the money has been disbursed to the SUG leaders, Prof. Isiaka Aransi, OAU’s head of student affairs division said:

The money has been disbursed. It is their money and it was approved for disbursement.

Reports claim that the SUG had earlier been accused of embezzlement by the students, following claims that they had bought a bus for N900,000 instead of the N2.5m they said they had spent out of the N3m they received.

Looking for a job? Here are the best ways to find jobs in Nigeria

[nextpage title=”page 1″ ]

The entire activities from our birth, to getting an education, and surviving all have links to finances. While there are indeed many things to live for and other goals to pursue, everything is really on standstill until you have money.

As a result of the state of affairs in Nigeria, however, making money from working for an employer is tough – especially because it is tough to get the jobs in the first place. The unemployment rate in Nigeria is one of the highest in the world and while it is easy to think of becoming an entrepreneur, you would come to realise that entrepreneurship is not as easy as it seems. Especially if you don’t have the required capital and structure to handle it. This is why the best option is to really find a job.

In a country like Nigeria, how do you find a job? Here are some trusted ways.

  • Use multiple job boards

This is the first way most people think of when it comes to securing jobs in Nigeria. While it is true that newspapers still advertise jobs, digital technology has come to take away that job from the papers. There are many online job boards for the Nigerian market and they send information almost on a daily basis, on how to apply for some of the best jobs in the nation. To increase your chances of being selected, you would need to subscribe to different sites. While most typically show the same job openings, there are usually extras that you might not pick because you were focussed on just one. Your dream job might just be on another site. Some of the best in Nigeria are Jobberman, Hot Nigerian Jobs, and My Job Mag.

  • Leverage on Social media

social media

Another thing we can thank the 21st century for is the advancement of social media. Thanks to it, certain companies just have to run their adverts on their social media pages. Follow the companies you are most inclined to working with, and you just might get first-hand information on any new opening. If you’re job hunting, be sure to tell your friends to tag you whenever they say any opening.

[nextpage title=”page 2″ ]

  • Focus on LinkedIn

While other social media pages might help you learn about job openings, LinkedIn is the ultimate. If you are searching for a job and you are not on LinkedIn, then you aren’t so ready to get one. Thousands of people have gotten jobs by just being on this social media app. It doubles as a great way to meet top business people and to get jobs, so get active on it as much as you can.

  • Network!

Sitting at home and hoping for a job, is as effective as sitting in your house while trying to find a marriage partner. One trusted way to get a job in a country like Nigeria where who you know is a faster way to get a job, is to go for networking events. Go out, attend events, and do not hesitate to talk to people. You never know who has the key to your dream job.

  • Get creative

When the chips are down and you still can’t seem to find employment, then you have to get really creative. This is why you find some Nigerians carrying cardboard with their qualifications on them in Lagos. However, you don’t need to get that extreme. You could offer to work for free and see where it goes from there, or you could strike a marketing deal with a company. Just think of other ways and get at it.
